Wednesday's Brian Teaser

Good luck!

(1) How is solfege used in the movie Sound of Music?
(2) Name the lead singer for Switchfoot.
(3) How many candles are in a Jewish menorah (also called the shamash)?
(4) What happens when you toss boiling water outside if the temperature is -40? Minnesotans will know this answer!

  1. 1) It's used in the song "Do-Re-Me" to visualize a relationship with each note in the scale or progression. The "Sound of Music" actually introduced solfege to the general public.
    2) Jon Foreman
    3) That would be nine as you're talking about a Hanukkah menorah. A standard Jewish menorah only has seven (one for each day of the week).
    4) It crystallizes before it can even hit the ground. It's like instant snow flakes!
