Friberg's Friday Favorite

Hillsong just released their latest album, A Beautiful Exchange. After going through the project a couple of times, I found myself singing along with this song, Forever Reign.

It has potential to be a classic for any church service. I especially like the part when everyone is singing "Jesus" during the bridge.

Piano Man

Yesterday, I used another great song to bring people into the worship service.

Everything on the stage was dark, the cross lights were on, and people were coming into the church auditorium. I started playing Billy Joel's "Piano Man" on the piano and the band slowly joined me by playing the accompanied chords. We went through the main chorus twice and held the G chord at the end. Everyone in the church was looking forward, ready to sing and worship.

I immediately started slowly singing "I'll fly away oh glory, I'll fly away." We went through the chorus slow and then turned the service into a good old fashion gospel-jamin' hymn. People were clapping on the beat, people were clapping off the beat. Everyone in the church was singing loudly, "Hallelujah by and by...I'll fly away!"

"Piano Man" into "I'll Fly Away" initially seemed unorthodox; however, the congregation's attention was drawn into worship through a chorus that was familiar to them.

Football players LOVE to celebrate when they score a touchdown. Can name the player who first started the trend? Also, can you name a recent Hall of Fame inductee that would never celebrate after he scored a touchdown?

Prize to the winner!

Empowerment

I ascribe to the empowerment model of leadership. I would rather build on a person's strengths than focus on someone's mistakes. By using empowerment, I have experienced outstanding results from the people around me.

Are you an empowering leader? Click here to read a wonderful article provided by Catalyst. The writer points out 10 signs that display someone NOT being an empowering leader.

Happy Father's Day!

To you dad - thanks for being the strong leader, father, and mentor throughout my whole life. This song by Sanctus Real paints a great picture of great dads like you.
