Yesterday, we did Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah as an opening to the service. Many people tie the song with Shrek; however, we combined Lee Dewyze's style with Lincoln Brewster's lyrics.
A soloist sang the original verse 1 and chorus with only a light on the cross (the stage was black). When we started v2 (Brewster's lyrics), the lights went up, everyone stood, and we all sang out to God.
I thought it was a perfect intro to the service. The band nailed it, the church worshiped, and the rest of the service was set up nicely by that song.
